Sea Gulls capture first CAC victory of the 2010 season

Box Score

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Salisbury University women's soccer team captured its first Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) victory of the 2010 season with a 2-1 win over Marymount (Va.) University on Wednesday night.

The Sea Gulls (2-2, 1-0 CAC) got on the board in the game's 18th minute as junior forward Sarah Jessilonis collected a pass from freshman forward Colleen O'Connell and put a shot on frame that went off the goalkeeper's hands and into the net. That would be the only goal of the first half, but the Sea Gulls did fire off 13 shots compared to just three for the Saints (1-3, 0-1 CAC).

Salisbury would strike just four minutes into the second half, as Jessilonis would find the back of the net again off an assist from junior midfielder Brenna Stuhler. Marymount got on the board in the 83rd minute when Paige Pierson converted a penalty kick. For the match the Sea Gulls held a 21-4 shots advantage and won 15 corner kicks compared to just one for the Saints.

The Sea Gulls will continue play on the road as they are set to travel to Lynchburg, Va., for the Shellenberger Classic this weekend. SU will square off against Lynchburg College on Saturday at 4 p.m.
