Miele scores game-winner in double overtime against Frostburg State, 2-1

Box Score

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Salisbury University women's soccer team went into double overtime for its fourth match of the season and came out with a win over Capital Athletic Conference opponent Frostburg State University, 2-1, with a thrilling last-minute goal.

Salisbury (10-3-2, 6-0 CAC) held the upper hand in the first half of the contest as they had three shots on goal but could not find the back of the net.

In the second half, Salisbury took a 1-0 lead 14 minutes into the half as junior Erin Mooney sent a shot past the Bobcat goalkeeper. The lead would not last long, however, as the Bobcats (12-2-1, 4-1-1) evened the score seven minutes later, scoring off a header by Stephanie Fazenbaker. The Sea Gulls would get three additional shots off before the end of regulation time.

The score remained 1-1 until the second overtime when Salisbury converted a corner kick with just 35 seconds left in the match. Senior Kira Mangone took the corner for the Sea Gulls, lofting the ball to senior Amanda Miele, who headed the ball into the goal to give Salisbury the victory. Miele has now scored four game-winning goals and leads the team with nine goals this season.

Salisbury will continue action in the CAC as they travel to Stevenson University on Wednesday, Oct. 19, for a 4 p.m., contest.
