Salisbury's eight-game winning streak snapped at Stevenson

Box Score

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Salisbury University women's soccer team suffered its first Capital Athletic Conference loss of the 2011 season, falling at Stevenson University, 1-0, on Wednesday afternoon. The loss also brings to an end the Gulls' eight-game winning streak.

Stevenson (11-4-1, 5-1-1 CAC) got the game-winning goal in just the 18th minute. Amanda Marston lobbed a ball into the box from the end line where Stephanie Eyler was there to finish for the 1-0 lead.

Each team registered four shots on goal in the contest, while the Mustangs held an edge on overall attempts, taking 12 shots to the Sea Gulls' eight. Salisbury (10-4-2, 6-1 CAC) turned up the pressure in the closing minutes, registering three shots in the final five minutes of the contest. Two of those shots, by senior Amanda Zyzak and junior Erin Mooney, tested Stevenson keeper Brittany Ross, who made the saves.

Salisbury goalkeeper Michelle Conrad notched three saves.

The Sea Gulls will be back in action on Saturday as they host St. Mary's (Md.) College at the SU Soccer Complex. The game, which will be preceded by Salisbury's senior day festivities, will be the Gulls' final CAC game. A win would clinch the top seed and home-field advantage throughout the conference playoffs. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
