Box Score SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 1 Salisbury University field hockey team celebrated its eight seniors on Saturday afternoon, in their last regular season home game at Sea Gull Stadium, by scoring a plethora of goals against Capital Athletic Conference opponent Frostburg State University. The Sea Gulls earned their 15th consecutive win and ninth shutout in a 9-0 victory.
The Sea Gulls (15-0, 7-0 CAC) got on the board just six minutes into the first half as senior Caitlin Walker sent a pass into the circle, hitting senior Tara McGovern, who cut toward the stroke mark, slamming the ball into the cage for the 1-0 advantage.
Two minutes later junior Erica Henderson found the back of the goal, off a dish from senior Alison Bloodsworth. At the 12:23 mark, Salisbury earned its seventh penalty corner and scored off the stick of junior Kristina Fusco, who took a hard shot from the left, to bring the score to 3-0. Salisbury would score its first three goals in a span of six minutes, each off penalty corners.
Senior Courtney Webster scored her first of three goals on the day, off a pass from Walker, with 13 minutes left in the half. The last goal of the half came with just two minutes to play as senior Danielle Lehman tipped in a pass from Walker to end the half, 5-0.
Salisbury earned 10 penalty corners and took 31 shots in the first half while the Bobcats (5-14, 1-6 CAC) earned one penalty corner and put two shots on goal.
The second half was more of the same as the maroon and gold was able to get a number of players action in the game. Salisbury attempted 19 additional shots and earned four penalty corner opportunites in the last 35 minutes of play.
Webster scored the first and final goal of the half, while Bloodsworth and Lehman each slipped shots past the Bobcats' goalkeeper to bring the final score to 9-0.
Along with Senior Day, the Gulls hosted their second annual "Corners for Cancer" event where they earned 14 penalty corners throughout the contest, doubling their penalty corners from last year's "Corners for Cancer" game.
Salisbury will head to No. 12 Catholic University of America on Tuesday, Oct. 25, to cap off the regular season. The game is slated for 6 p.m.
