SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 17 Salisbury University men's soccer team came out victorious in its final regular-season game on Wednesday. The Sea Gulls took down Capital Athletic Conference foe Stevenson University, 1-0.

Sophomore midfielder Jake Perry opened the game with a goal for the Sea Gulls in the fourth minute of play. Junior midfielder Jimmy Mundy had the ball in the middle of the field and hit a pass into the 18-yard box for Perry, who subsequently slipped the ball past the keeper for the 1-0 advantage. Salisbury (12-2-3, 7-1 CAC) would maintain the lead for the rest of the first half.

In the second half, the Sea Gulls played stout defense as the Mustangs furiously tried to score the equalizing goal. The defense, made up of senior Nate Woods, junior Kyle Simmons and sophomores Larry Cornish and Chase Humphrey, only allowed Stevenson (7-9-1, 3-5 CAC) three shots on goal for the game. With the solid defensive effort, Salisbury preserved its lead for the rest of the game to come out victorious.

The teams played a physical match that featured four combined yellow cards, two for each team, and 26 combined fouls.

Junior goalkeeper John Vnenchak won his eighth match of the season and made three saves in the shutout effort.

Salisbury will be in action again in the semifinals of the CAC tournament on Tuesday, Nov. 1. The Sea Gulls' opponent and the time of the game will be determined after this weekend's first-round games. Check www.suseagulls.com for more information as it becomes available.
