SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University women's soccer team won the program's fourth Capital Athletic Conference Championship off a header by junior midfielder Bonnie Sandone in overtime, defeating St. Mary's (Md.) College, 1-0, at the SU Soccer Complex Saturday.

With five minutes left in the overtime period, Sarah Pfundstein set up for a Salisbury corner kick. As her kick curved toward the back post, Sandone headed the ball into the back of the net for her first goal of the season and the win.

Salisbury (13-5-2) controlled the possession for the majority of the first half, outshooting St. Mary's (6-7-3), 12-2. Sophomore forward Colleen O'Connell, senior midfielder Katie McMahon and sophomore midfielder Alex Gower all had two shots in the half to tie for the team lead.

The teams took a scoreless tie into halftime.

The Sea Gulls continued to have control of the ball in the second half. They outshot the Seahawks, 13-6, in the half and finished regulation with a 25-8 edge in shots. Junior forward Pfundstein and junior defender Erin Mooney finished regulation, leading the team with four shots each.

Salisbury was unable to take advantage of any scoring opportunities in the half, but the Sea Gull defense led by senior Kira Mangone held strong, keeping St. Mary's off the scoreboard.

The championship marks the Sea Gulls' first conference title in women's soccer since 2006. Earning the CAC's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament, SU now awaits the tournament pairings.
