Box Score 2 SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 21-ranked Salisbury University baseball team completed its weekend series sweep of Capital Athletic Conference foe York (Pa.) College on Sunday. The Sea Gulls took both games of the doubleheader by scores of 2-1 and 7-1, respectively.
Salisbury (3-2, 3-0 CAC) took the first lead of the day in the fourth inning of the first game. After a double by senior designated hitter Devon Quaglietta, senior first baseman Brian Green bunted down the first base line for a single. On the play, Quaglietta scored on a fielding error by the York first baseman that also allowed Green to advance to second.
A sacrifice fly by sophomore third baseman Matt Beck scored Green to give the Sea Gulls a 2-0 lead.
York (1-6, 0-3 CAC) scored its lone run during a comeback attempt in the seventh inning to bring the final score to 2-1. Senior pitcher Drew Baldwin came in to get the final two outs of the game, along with the save.
Senior pitcher Kyle Judson picked up his first win of the season as he pitched six and one-third innings, allowing only one run on six hits with four strikeouts.
In the second game of the day, senior pitcher Dustin Herbert continued the strong day on the mound for the Gulls. He shut down the Spartans by allowing only one run on eight hits in six and one-third innings. He registered four strikeouts, as well.
Salisbury jumped on top with a three-run first inning and never looked back on its way to finish the sweep. The big hit came on a two RBI single by junior leftfielder Bill Morton. Quaglietta and junior catcher Tyler Bennett scored on the play.
After the Gulls scored one more run in the third inning to bring the lead to 4-0, York broke up the Herbert shutout in the sixth with one run of its own. However, Salisbury broke the game open with another three-run inning in its half of the sixth. Senior outfielder Brad Baylis, Bennett and Green all had RBIs in the inning.
Salisbury will be in action again as it travels to Washington (Md.) College on Tuesday, March 1. The first pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
