Box Score SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 21 Salisbury University baseball team improved to 7-3 after defeating Albertus Magnus College Friday afternoon at the SU Baseball Field, 9-6.
Salisbury jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning after three Falcon errors led to three unearned Sea Gull runs. Freshman outfielder Bill Root doubled down the left field line and scored two batters later when senior catcher Devon Quaglietta reached on an error. Junior infielder Chris Connor delivered the final two runs on a single that scored Quaglietta and senior outfielder Brad Baylis.
Albertus Magnus made a comeback attempt in the seventh inning with two runs to get within one run of the lead, but Salisbury scored two runs in the home half of the seventh to bring the lead back to three. Quaglietta singled to drive in Root and Baylis to give the Sea Gulls the 5-2 lead.
Salisbury would fight off another Falcon rally in the eighth inning. The Falcons scored three runs in their half of the inning to tie the game at five, but the Sea Gulls would follow with a four-run eighth inning to seal the win. Sophomore outfielder Nick Gentry started the inning with a double before scoring the winning run on a wild pitch. The Sea Gulls would tack on three more insurance runs that included a double by freshman infielder John Schiotis which drove in freshman infielder Joey Jones. Schiotis would later score on a wild pitch. Freshman outfielder Greg Janofsky scored the final run on a single by senior infielder Brian Green.
Senior pitcher Drew Baldwin picked up his first win of the season pitching the final 1 1/3 innings of the game; he struck out two batters. Sophomore pitcher Andrew Levy started the game going 6 1/3 innings giving up only one hit while striking out six batters.
Salisbury will be at home on Saturday in a doubleheader against CAC opponent the University Mary Washington. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
