SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University baseball team staged a rally against Frostburg State University on Saturday – coming back from a 6-1 deficit to trail by a single run in the bottom of the ninth inning – but a crack of lightning cut the Sea Gulls' effort short and forced the game to be delayed until Sunday at 10 a.m.
When the game resumed on Sunday morning, the maroon and gold (21-11) had runners on first and second base, poised to score, as junior outfielder Nick Walls stepped up to the plate with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. Walls ripped two foul balls over Frostburg's (21-10) dugout before striking out looking, ending Salisbury's Capital Athletic Conference tournament run. The final score of the game was 8-7.
Salisbury's road to the game against the Bobcats was not an easy one; the Sea Gulls earned a 4-0 first-round tournament win against York (Pa.) College before suffering an 11-3 loss to the University of Mary Washington, but bounced back with a 6-5, 12-inning win against St. Mary's (Md.) College on Saturday morning.
Next up, the Sea Gulls are scheduled to host Christopher Newport University on Friday, April 22 at 3:30 p.m. at the SU Baseball Field.
