Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Salisbury University baseball team picked up a 7-3 victory at Catholic University of America on Sunday behind 7 1/3 strong innings by starting pitcher Andrew Levy.
Levy scattered seven hits and struck out four as he registered a new career high in innings pitched. The sophomore worked into the eighth inning before giving way to senior Drew Baldwin, who picked up his third save of the season.
Salisbury fell behind by three runs early as the Cardinals (12-9) picked up single runs in the first, second and third innings. But that was all the offense Catholic would come up with in the game.
The Sea Gulls (16-9) would begin to chip away at the Catholic lead in the next half inning, scoring two runs in the top of the fourth. Freshman Greg Janofsky singled home Salisbury's first run while senior Dustin Herbert had an RBI double to score Janofsky, cutting the lead to one.
Salisbury tied the game in the top of the fifth when freshman Bill Root singled and stole second before advancing to third on a groundout. Senior Brian Green's sacrifice fly evened the score at three.
Herbert brought himself home as the game-winning run by slugging the first home run of his career in the top of the sixth inning. Salisbury added another run in the sixth and a pair of insurance runs in the seventh.
Herbert, freshman Bobby Hite and junior Tyler Bennett each went 2-for-4 in the game, while Root was 3-for-4. Bennett also scored two runs.
Salisbury will be back in action on Tuesday night, as the Sea Gulls travel to Arthur W. Perdue Stadium to take on the Delmarva Shorebirds, the Class-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles; first pitch is schedule for 7:05 p.m. Tickets are on sale at the information desk in the Guerrieri University Center on campus or at the Perdue Stadium box office.
