FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Salisbury University baseball team wrapped up its weekend series with Methodist University on Sunday with a 6-1 victory over the host Monarchs.

Methodist (28-16) scored the game's first run in the bottom of the third inning after Sergio Davis hit a double to right field. Davis advanced to third on an infield ground out before scoring on a two-out single by Brandon Thigpen.

Salisbury (25-11) responded with back-to-back solo home runs in the top of the fourth inning by senior Brian Green and junior Tyler Bennett to take a 2-1 lead.

In the top of the eighth inning Green delivered another blow to the Monarch pitching staff, as the senior hit a three-run home run over the left field fence to extend the lead to 5-1 in favor of the maroon and gold.

The Sea Gulls would add an insurance run in the top of the ninth, kicked off with a walk by junior Chris Connor. Connor would be replaced by senior Fred Kreiger on the base path; Kreiger advanced to second on a bunt by senior Nick Walls before coming around to score on Matt Beck's single to right field.

Senior Dustin Herbert allowed just one run in 6 1/3 innings of work to earn the victory in the contest. Senior Drew Baldwin finished out the contest and fanned six Monarch batters.

The Sea Gulls will continue play on the road this Thursday at Johns Hopkins University. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
