Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The No. 1 Salisbury University field hockey team continued its winning streak Wednesday evening defeating Stevenson University, 4-0, in Capital Athletic Conference play.
In the first half the maroon and gold took control of the game, as they continually ripped shots from the circle. However, they would not be able to capitalize off the numerous opportunities until the 20th minute of play. With 15 minutes left in the half, Salisbury was awarded a penalty stroke that junior Kristina Fusco successfully sent past the Stevenson goalkeeper for the first goal of the night.
The successful stroke attempt seemed to get the ball rolling for the Sea Gulls as senior Courtney Webster scored eight minutes later, off a pass from classmate Caitlin Walker. Webster then returned the favor as she assisted Walker, who scored the third goal of the match at the 31:13 mark.
Salisbury (9-0, 3-0 CAC) kept the momentum going in the second half scoring just three minutes in, off the stick of Fusco, who collected a rebound and sent the ball into the back of the cage for her second goal of the night.
The Sea Gulls controlled the field both offensively and defensively ending the game with 26 shots and 12 penalty corners. The Salisbury defense held on for its fourth shutout, allowing two penalty corners and one shot on goal by Stevenson (3-7, 1-1 CAC) throughout the contest.
Salisbury will continue play in the Capital Athletic Conference, as it heads to the University of Mary Washington, on Saturday, Oct. 1, to battle the reigning conference champions. The game is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
