Zyzak, Pfundstein lead SU to 3-0 win over Marymount

Box Score

SALISBURY, Md. – Senior defender Amanda Zyzak and junior forward Sarah Pfundstein each tallied four points to lead the Salisbury University women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Marymount University at the SU Soccer Complex on Wednesday. The victory proved to be the fourth consecutive win for the Sea Gulls, who have won all 23 meetings with the Saints.

Pfundstein opened the scoring for Salisbury (6-3-2, 2-0 Capital Athletic Conference) in the 22nd minute when she collected a rebound off of a shot by senior midfielder Amanda Miele. Pfundstein gathered the ball and beat Marymount goalie Victoria Wyand (eight saves) to the left side of the goal. SU increased its advantage over the Saints (4-5, 0-2 CAC) to two goals eight minutes later when Pfundstein sent a pass from midfield to Zyzak, who quickly deposited the ball into the back of the net.

Zyzak capped the scoring in the 64th minute when she collected a pass from Pfundstein and scored from the top of the goalie box. The two goals scored by Zyzak marked her first career multi-goal game.

Zyzak and Pfundstein provided the fire power for SU but the Sea Gulls saw 13 different players collect shots in the game. Senior midfielder Katie McMahon had a game-high six shots while freshman forward Morgan Brasch and junior defender Erin Mooney each had four. All three goalkeepers played for Salisbury in the game as the combination of freshman Michelle Conrad, junior Melissa Orgera and sophomore Lauren West paced SU to its second consecutive shutout.

Salisbury outshot Marymount 32-4, while also holding a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Salisbury hits the road for its next contest when the Sea Gulls travel to Capital Athletic Conference foe the University of Mary Washington, on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 1 p.m.
