SU clinches CAC regular season title with 1-0 win over St. Mary's

Box Score

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Salisbury University women's soccer team clinched the Capital Athletic Conference regular-season championship with a 1-0 win over St. Mary's (Md.) College, Saturday afternoon. Because the Sea Gulls finished the season with the best conference record, any attempt to dethrone them will be done on home turf.

Senior Erin Mooney netted her fourth goal of the season just 45 seconds into the second half to put the game's only tally on the scoreboard. Freshman Heather Deamond picked up the assist, her team-high fourth of the season. That was enough offense for Salisbury (10-5, 5-1 CAC) and the Sea Gulls held off St. Mary's (5-8-1, 2-3-1) to preserve the win.

Sophomore Michelle Conrad stopped three Seahawk shots to pick up her seventh shutout of the season.

The Sea Gulls wrap up the regular season against Eastern University Tuesday. That match is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.

Salisbury's quest to repeat as CAC champion includes a first-round bye as the tournament's top seed. For more information on who the Sea Gulls will face in the semifinals, check www.suseagulls.com as it becomes available.
