SALISBURY, Md. - The No. 12 Salisbury University men's soccer team won its first match as a nationally-ranked team in 2012 as a late goal from senior forward Phil Bucheimer gave the Gulls a 1-0 victory over Washington (Md.) College.

Bucheimer found himself perched between two Washington College defenders before senior midfielder Jeremy Moyer chipped a pass up to the Frederick, Md., native. After settling the pass, Bucheimer split the defenders and stepped past the Shoremen goalkeeper before planting the ball in the back of the net with just over 10 minutes remaining in the game.

The Sea Gulls earned the win after dominating the stat sheet throughout the entire game. The Gulls outshot the Shoremen, 32-5, and registered more corner kicks, 9-0.

The Salisbury defense, made up of seniors Nate Woods and Kyle Simmons and juniors Larry Cornish and Chase Humphrey thwarted the opposing offense for the entire match as Washington did not register its first shot until the second half.

Senior goalkeeper John Vnenchak was only forced to make one save in the game while playing all 90 minutes on the way to his third win and shut out of the season.

The Sea Gulls will be in action again this weekend on the road at the St. Mary's (Md.) College Classic. The two-day tournament will begin on Saturday, Sept. 8, as Salisbury is set to take on Centenary (N.J.) College at 4 p.m.
