SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 10 Salisbury University men's lacrosse team, led by a balanced attack and shut-down defense, defeated No. 15 Gettysburg College on Saturday at Sea Gull Stadium, 8-5.

The Sea Gulls were led by sophomore attackman Wade Korvin's two goals, as he was the only of seven SU goal scorers to net multiple goals.

Senior attackman Evan Hammersly scored less than two minutes into the first quarter, taking a pass from Korvin and netting a shot from the left wing to get the Gulls off to a quick start.

Less than three minutes later, at the 10:45 mark, SU (4-2) struck again off the stick of sophomore midfielder Adam Stork. Stork drove down the right side, before cutting back inside and ripping a left-handed shot for the score.

Bijan Firouzan, who led the Bullets with two goals, scored one of two Gettysburg goals in the first quarter, tying the game, 2-2, heading into the second.

Korvin started the second quarter with two fast-break goals to ignite the Salisbury offense's five-goal quarter. Both scores came from just outside the crease at the 14:02 and 12:51 marks on assists from junior attackmen Rhett DePol and Luke Phipps, respectively, followed by a score from the right wing just 25 seconds later by sophomore midfielder James Burton.

Midfielders, junior Greg Korvin and freshman Davis Anderson each added one, as the Sea Gulls and Bullets alternated goals on the last four scores of the half, sending the teams into halftime with the SU leading 7-4. Salisbury outshot Gettysburg in the first half, 22-10, and won 11-of-13 faceoffs.

The Salisbury defense, led by sophomore Knute Kraus, junior Zeke Smith and senior Brett Baer, shut out the Bullets (2-1) in the third quarter, allowing the Gulls to increase their lead to 8-4 on a shot into the top-left corner of the cage from senior midfielder Eric Kluge. The unit clamped down for the rest of the game, allowing only one goal in the fourth quarter to preserve the victory.

Junior goalkeeper Alex Taylor played all 60 minutes in the cage and made seven saves in the victory.

Salisbury now looks forward to hosting Ohio Wesleyan University next Sunday at Sea Gull Stadium with the opening faceoff set for 1 p.m.
