OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Salisbury University women's soccer team's freshman class shined brightly in a 2-1 win over Stevenson University Wednesday evening at Mustang Stadium. The Sea Gulls offense was set up and finished by first year players, with a freshman also recording the win in goal for coach Kwame Lloyd.

Lindsey Andonian and Marissa Walker led the Sea Gull attack to put the team above the .500 mark for the season.

Stevenson (6-4) controlled the statsheet in the first half, outshooting the Sea Gulls 6-2 in the first 45 minutes of play and capitalized on that shot advantage with 11:34 remaining in the first half with a goal by Alexis Siejack. That lead would stand up as the two teams headed into the break.

Salisbury (4-3-1) got its offense on track 16 minutes into the second half, when Andonian took a cross from fellow freshman Megen Jackson to tie the game at one goal a side.

The Sea Gulls seized the lead just 8:10 later, when Walker netted the first goal of her career to put Salisbury ahead for good. The Baldwin, Md., native took a pass from classmate Jayne Pinsky and drilled the ball in the back of the net past Mustang goalie Annie McCoach.

The final member of the starring freshman quintet was goalie Alesha Seifert, who stopped two Stevenson shots to bring her record to 3-0 for the year. The Mustangs were the first team to score on Seifert, who now has a goals-against average of 0.29.

For the contest, Stevenson outshot the Sea Gulls 7-5 but Salisbury was able to make the best of its opportunities. The Mustangs attempted each of the seven corner kicks in the match.

The Sea Gulls return to the SU Soccer Complex for their next contest, hosting York College of Pennsylvania this Saturday. That game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
