Quigley, Crompton put away Shoremen, 2-0, with late-game goals

Box Score

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - The Salisbury University men's soccer team started its road stretch with a 2-0 win over Washington (Md.) College Wednesday night. Late-game heroics by senior midfielders Adam Quigley and Elliott Crompton put away the match for the 15th-straight victory over the Shoremen.

First-half action played out slowly as Washington made five attempts to Salisbury's two shots. In the second half, action started from beginning to end.

The Sea Gulls found the back of the net in the 69th minute. Junior forward Matt Greene placed a corner kick in the mix where Crompton had an opportunity, but was deflected by Washington goalkeeper David Myers. Off the deflection, Quigley was at the right place at the right time to finish off the attempt.

In the 81st minute, Crompton was able to make the attempt count and seal the deal for Salisbury. Freshman midfielder Brad Martinelli crossed a flawless ball into the 18-yard box off the corner leaving Crompton with his second goal of the season off a header.

The Gulls held on to the 2-0 lead for the final nine minutes.

Salisbury totaled 14 shots for the game, 12 of which were taken in the second half. Washington finished with 11.
Sophomore goalkeeper Drew Staedeli collected his third-consecutive shutout of the season after making four saves in the match. Once again, the defense played strong led by juniors Logan Becker, Kyle Westbrook, and Michael Black. Becker and Westbrook played the entire 90 minutes, while Black played 80.

The men continue their travels to St. Mary's City, Md., for the Seahawk Classic on Saturday. The Gulls take on the Hornets of Shenandoah University to kick off the tournament at 4 p.m.
