SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University women's soccer team is above .500 for the first time this season following a 2-0 win over Bridgewater (Va.) College in the final game of the Salisbury University Classic Sunday afternoon at the SU Soccer Complex.

Much of the action in the first half took place in the middle of the field, with neither team controlling the ball for a prolonged period of time to piece together their offense. Salisbury (3-2) held a 5-4 advantage in shots, with the Eagles taking the only three corner kicks in the half.

Salisbury got on the board early in the contest as sophomore Julie Dannenberg put a shot on goal that was initially blocked by a Bridgewater (2-2) defender, but deflected off the defender's leg with spin and into the right side of the goal past Eagles' goalie Taylor Riley just seven minutes into the contest.

Twenty minutes later, at the 27:33 mark of the first half, junior Morgan Brasch took a pass from sophomore Samantha Beck for her first goal of the season, and the 2-0 advantage.

The second half was much of the same action, with neither team controlling the ball for a significant period of time. The only serious chance on goal came with 17:31 remaining in the contest, when Bridgewater's Sarah Conner put a shot on goal that was saved by Sea Gull freshman Alesha Seifert. On the afternoon, Seifert stopped five Eagle shots for her second shutout of the season.

For the contest, the Sea Gulls outshot Bridgewater 13-9, with a 7-5 shots-on-goal advantage. Brasch led Salisbury with four shots, all on goal, in the game.

The Sea Gulls are next in action this Saturday, Sept. 14, traveling to Grantham, Pa., to take on No. 1 Messiah College. That game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
