Sea Gulls drop Eagles, 2-0, on Senior Day

Box Score

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University women's soccer team scored two goals on Saturday, defeating the University of Mary Washington, 2-0, in Capital Athletic Conference action on Senior Day.

It took less than nine minutes for the Sea Gulls (8-4-3, 5-1 CAC) to get on the board in the first half. Heather Deamond sent a ball into the box and an Eagle defender tried to clear the ball, but mishandled it, and Jenny Gavigan capitalized on the opportunity, tapping in the ball from inside the box.

Salisbury dominated the rest of the period, controlling the ball and firing off six more shots in the half.

The defense limited the Mary Washington (8-5-2, 2-3-1 CAC) offense to just three shots in the half, and the two shots on goal were saved by senior goalkeeper Michelle Conrad.

The second half saw action to be a little more even with the Eagles trying to put something together on offense to tie the game up, but the Sea Gulls would strike again in the 72nd minute, erasing all hope for Mary Washington. Lindsey Andonian found Victoria Luc who sent a rocket into the goal from just inside the box, notching her eighth goal of the year and giving Salisbury a 2-0 lead.

After the insurance goal, the Sea Gull offense continued to control the ball and took three more shots in the period.

The SU defense, which was anchored by senior Jackie Holtzman, stood strong for the rest of the game and would not allow a goal for Mary Washington.

Conrad saw five shots on goal in her 90 minutes of action in front of the net and saved all five balls, while Charlotte Owens recorded five saves in goal for the Eagles.

Salisbury had a 16-9 shot advantage and took the majority of the corner kicks in the game, edging Mary Washington, 8-3, in the category.

Before the game, the four seniors on the team, Morgan Brasch, Samantha Beck, Holtzman, and Conrad were honored for Senior Day. At halftime of the match, Salisbury recognized two former Sea Gull women's soccer players, Amy Gallagher and Erin Mooney, who have been placed on the CAC Women' Soccer Silver Anniversary team.

The Sea Gulls will get set to travel to take on Wesley College on Wednesday, October 22 in another CAC matchup. First touch is set for 7 p.m.
