STEVENSON, Md. – The No. 15 Salisbury University baseball team extended its season-high winning streak to 12 games with a 7-0 win over Stevenson University, Sunday afternoon at Park Field. This is the fifth time the Sea Gulls have shut out an opponent this season.

Salisbury (29-7) got a strong start from sophomore Connor Shockley, who went seven innings and scattered four hits. The lefty from Salisbury, Md., struck out six Stevenson (13-24) batters while walking a pair of Mustangs.

Shockley received run support before even taking the mound, as the Sea Gulls scored two runs in the first inning. After the first three Salisbury batters singled, senior Johnny Schiotis hit a grounder to the shortstop and reached on a fielder's choice, scoring junior Kyle Hayman from third.

Two batters later, junior Jordan Gowe hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score freshman Pete Grasso for a 2-0 Salisbury lead.

In the fifth, the Sea Gulls would tack on a pair of runs. Senior Bill Root started the inning with a bunt single and was moved to third by a Hayman single. Hayman took second on the throw and both runners were plated by a single by Grasso.

Salisbury added three runs in the seventh to finish the scoring on the afternoon, with the hits starting with two outs. Senior Quinn Griffith would get the rally started with a single to right field, followed by a Schiotis single through the left side. Griffith would come around to score on a single to center by junior Bobby Sanzone. Gowe would follow with a double to right center that would score both Schiotis and Sanzone.

Sophomore Jon Schmedel would work the eighth and junior Kyle Hamby would finish the contest on the mound. Both worked around leadoff hits to keep the Mustangs off the board.

Gowe, Grasso, Griffith and Hayman each had three hits to lead the Sea Gull attack. Gowe drove in a game-high three runs, while Hayman scored twice.

The Sea Gulls are a win away from extending its 30-win season streak to nine and will have their first crack to get that win tomorrow, hosting Johns Hopkins University at the SU Baseball Field. That contest is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
