GLASSBORO, N.J. – The No. 2 Salisbury University field hockey team kept its unblemished record intact on Wednesday night, claiming an 8-2 win at Rowan University, as the Sea Gulls got a hat trick from junior Courtney Jantzen and two goals apiece from senior Mallory Elliott and junior Samantha Johnson.

The Sea Gulls (6-0) outshot Rowan 24-4 in the contest, with the Profs (3-3) not able to attempt their second shot of the game until Salisbury had opened up a 4-0 lead.

Jantzen started the scoring in the fourth minute, collecting the ball during a scramble in front of the cage and firing a shot in the left side for the 1-0 lead. The tally kept Jantzen's hot start to the season going, as she has now scored at least one point in each game, with 12 goals and four assists through just six contests.

Jantzen would score again, five minutes later, prompting an early Rowan timeout, and the lead reached 3-0 when Elliott put home her first of the game in the 14th minute. The Delmar, Delaware native dodged a defender at the top of the circle, and ripped a shot into the left side for the score.

Elliott would set up Jantzen for her hat trick a few minutes later, as Jantzen tipped in the effort from the top of the circle and Salisbury held the 4-0 lead before the Profs got one back.

Salisbury pushed the lead to 5-1 in the closing minutes of the first half when sophomore Abbey Shobe took the ball from a Rowan defender inside the circle, trying to clear one of five first-half penalty corners for the Sea Gulls, and put in her second goal of the year.

The Sea Gulls held a 14-2 edge in shots over the first 35 minutes, controlling the action, while Rowan was awarded four penalty corners.

Johnson got into the scoring act eight minutes into the second half, putting home an unassisted strike in the 44th minute.

After the Profs got their final score, Elliott converted a penalty stroke and Johnson capped the scoring in the 67th minute.

Senior goalkeeper Rachel Clewer needed to turn away just one Rowan shot to notch her sixth win of the season, while junior back Amanda Cooper registered her first defensive save of the year.

Salisbury returns to action on Saturday, September 20, traveling to Lynchburg College to take on the Hornets; the match is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
