Women's tennis earns 8-1 victory over Elizabethtown on Senior Day; Youlios earns career doubles win No. 54

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University women's tennis team cruised to an 8-1 victory in non-conference action against Elizabethtown College on Sunday, recording the victory on Senior Day.

Junior Natalie Savage and senior Katie Youlios started the day with an 8-1 victory at No. 1 doubles. The doubles victory gives Youlios the most doubles wins in program history with a 54-22 career record, taking the top spot from Jackie Burr (2007-10).

Freshman Charlotte Walker and junior Claudia Lohn teamed up for a hard-fought 8-5 win at No. 2, while freshman Megan Soderlund and senior Allison Lutz capped off doubles action, prevailing in an 8-5 skirmish.

Savage coasted at No. 1 singles, tallying a quick 6-0, 6-0 win, while Youlios battled at the No. 2 spot, coming back to win the first set 7-5 before taking the second set 6-4 to earn the victory in the back-and-forth match. At No. 3 singles, Lohn put forth a strong effort to take the match 6-4, 6-3.

No. 4 singles was another hard-fought, close matchup that saw Soderlund come out on top. After winning the first set 6-2, Soderlund found herself down 5-2 in the second, but battled back and forced a tiebreaker, taking the second set 7-6 (8-6). Lutz fell behind by a set, falling 6-2 at No. 5 singles, but kept her composure and recorded a 6-0 defeat in the second to force a third set. Lutz garnered the final set 6-1 to capture the win. Walker fell at No. 6, in another close contest, 6-4, 7-5.

The Sea Gulls (13-5) will be back in action on Thursday, April 16 when they conclude regular season action, as they host Christopher Newport University in a Capital Athletic Conference matchup. The winner will be the second-seeded team in the CAC tournament, hosting a semifinal rematch between the two programs next week. Thursday's match is set to begin at 2 p.m.
