Andonian's two goals pace Salisbury in 4-0 win over Marymount

Box Score

SALISBURY, Md. – Junior Lindsey Andonian led the Salisbury University women's soccer team with two goals on Tuesday afternoon in a 4-0 victory over Marymount (Va.) University in Capital Athletic Conference play.

The Sea Gull offense was unstoppable all game long, and it took less than five minutes for Salisbury to tally its first score of the contest. With a slew of Sea Gulls in the box, senior Casey Arnone sent a tricky ball towards the goal that deflected off the crossbar and into the back of the net for the first score.

The next 13 minutes of play went scoreless, but Salisbury's offense controlled the ball the whole time, notching seven shots and four corner kicks during the span.

At 18:05, the Gulls took a 2-0 lead when junior Jayne Pinsky sent the ball to Andonian, who scored on a one-on-one breakaway attempt, firing the ball past Marymount goalkeeper Joanna Chenaille's hands to capture her first goal of the season.

A little over four minutes later, Andonian found the back of the net again when she took a pass from junior Jenny Gavigan and finished on another one-on-one attempt with the Saints keeper, increasing Salisbury's lead to 3-0.

Freshman Jenna Taylor notched a goal for the second time of the season at 37:19 when she launched a ball into the top right corner of the net from about 20 yards out, capping the scoring in the match.

In the second half, sophomore Ellen Anderson came into the goalkeeper position for SU after junior Alesha Seifert minded the net in the first half and picked up her second win of the season.

Much like the first half, the Salisbury offense controlled the ball for the majority of the second, taking a total of 11 shots compared to Marymount's three in the period.

Chenaille tallied four saves for the Saints in front of the net in the first half, and Carolina Saavedra took over goalkeeping duties for Marymount in the second, garnering two saves.

The Sea Gulls outshout the Saints, 30-3, on the afternoon, and held a 20-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Salisbury will be back in action on Saturday, October 3 when it travels to take on Southern Virginia University in another CAC matchup. That game is set for 2:30 p.m.
