GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The No. 2 Salisbury University men's lacrosse team went on the road to take on No. 5 Gettysburg College on Saturday afternoon and came away with a 10-7 victory to end the Bullets' 16-game regular-season winning streak.

Salisbury broke open the scoring with two early man-up goals in the first quarter. Nathan Blondino put in the first with a shot from the wing that Carson Kalama assisted on five minutes into the contest.

Four minutes later Brendan Bromwell used high heat on the man up to put it in the Bullets' net off a James Burton feed.

Gettysburg answered with two of its own to end the first quarter with the teams tied at two.

The second quarter turned into a ball possession battle with Gettysburg controlling the pace of play early on. With 3:20 left in the half, Gettysburg took a 3-2 lead off a goal from Jameson Smith.

Despite a slow start to the second quarter, Salisbury's offense came alive in the last minute of play in the quarter to take a lead into half time with two goals as a product of pushing transition scenarios.

Blondino notched one off a feed from Burton with 1:08 in the half, and Cirillo hit from deep as Blondino was low left near goal-line extended and found Cirillo dead center about 14 yards out and the senior captain put it top left with 19 seconds to go before half time.

At the half, both teams had amassed 10 turnovers, many of which were unforced.

Gettysburg opened up the second half by scoring three quick goals in the first three minutes to get the lead back. Kalama stopped the Bullets' run, burying a feed from Burton on the crease to tie the game back up.

After Kalama's marker, Gettysburg had possession and Joshua Dean stuffed a Gettysburg player who had a wide-open look on the crease. The Gulls got the clear and turned it into offense as Garrett Reynolds dodged from the left side and swept across the middle of the Gulls' offensive zone to his right hand and took a bounce shoot on the run that found the top shelf.

With 7:34 left in the third, Paul Werner tacked one on to put Gettysburg up 7-6, but it would be all Salisbury from there on out as Cirillo put one in soon after to tie the contest.

With 57 seconds left in the penultimate quarter, Burton – who already had four assists at the time – received a feed from Cirillo and ripped it low left for his first of the game to close out the scoring in the eight-goal third quarter.

The fourth quarter saw play slow down much like the second quarter as Salisbury used long possessions and took smart shots to hold off the Bullets.

Cirillo added another tally and Christian Ottenritter put in his first of the season to bring the final to 10-7.

Dean got the win in net, stopping seven shots, while Tim Brady fell to 1-1 on the year following an eight-save outing.

Duncan Campbell dominated at the faceoff X all day and was a large part of Salisbury's ability to maintain possession throughout. The junior transfer went 13-for-17, as Salisbury won 14 draws on the day with only 19 attempts.

Junior Andrew Ternahan once again controlled the middle of the field from the long-stick midfield position for Salisbury, tying for the team lead with three groundballs and causing two turnovers in the victory. Davis Anderson and Campbell also scooped up three groundballs.

Shutting out the Bullets in the fourth quarter, Salisbury has now outscored its opponents 16-2 in the fourth quarter this season. Also, it was the fifth quarter this season that Salisbury has kept a clean slate in.

The Gulls return to action on Sunday, March 6 when they will travel to the Landon School in Bethesda, Md., to take on Ohio Wesleyan University.
