Sea Gulls fall to SUNY Oswego in single-game matchup

Box Score

SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 4 Salisbury University baseball team fell in non-conference, single-game action on Saturday afternoon 15-5 to State University of New York at Oswego at the SU Baseball Field.

The Sea Gulls took an early lead in the game in the first two innings, as senior Kyle Goodwin led the way with another big day at the plate.

He led the game off with a triple into right field, eventually scoring on a sacrifice fly by senior Alex Lipman in the next at-bat for a 1-0 first-inning lead.

Junior Pete Grasso only allowed one SUNY Oswego hit in the first two innings on the mound in the start, allowing the Gulls to push the lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the second.

Freshman Jack Barry led off with a single, and senior Mike LaBriola followed with another single. Senior Tyler Hrycak then drove a first-pitch double into right field, scoring Barry.

Junior Scott Ardoin loaded the bases after being hit by a pitch, allowing Goodwin to push home the second run on an RBI ground out. Goodwin finished the game 4-for-5 at the plate with two RBI and three runs scored.

The Lakers' bats came alive in the third inning however, scoring five runs, before adding two in the fourth and six more in the fifth to take a commanding lead.

The Gulls added one back in their half of the fourth, as Goodwin connected on his third home run of the season.

In the eighth, Hrycak drove in his second run on a single, tying for the team lead, after a double by senior Jake Dmiterchik. Hrycak tallied two hits in the game in four at-bats.

Oswego added its final two runs in the top of the ninth, and the Gulls took advantage of a Laker error in the bottom of the inning for their final run, before the Lakers took the win.

Freshman AJ Korczynski pitched two innings of relief for the team in the game, striking out four batters, while allowing only two hits.

Salisbury returns to action on Tuesday, March 8 back at the SU Baseball Field, playing host to Neumann University; the first pitch is set for 3 p.m.
