Box Score YORK, Pa. - The No. 1 Salisbury University men's lacrosse team traveled to No. 7 York College of Pennsylvania on Wednesday afternoon and took down the Spartans, 17-5 in Capital Athletic Conference play.
After both teams started the game off with solid possessions, Salisbury notched the first goal three and a half minutes into the game. Brady Dashiell dodged to his right from behind the cage and moved it to the backdoor where a wide open Carson Kalama was waiting to bury it for one of his five on the day.
The Spartans responded quickly with one of their own but Kalama added two more tallies to go up 3-1 by the 8:52 mark in the quarter. Dashiell then popped one at 8:48 as Duncan Campbell won the faceoff via an Andrew Ternahan groundball, and Ternahan moved it to Dashiell who put it home to bring about a York timeout.
Ternahan got in on the action again as he raced up field following a Spartan turnover in the Gulls' defensive end and dished it off to the attackmen who all got a touch before Kalama hit Dashiell on the crease for the quick-stick marker following some crisp, unselfish passing.
Dashiell added one more to go up 6-1 going into the second. In the first quarter, Kalama and Dashiell both had four points off three goals and one assist.
As the attack did all of the first quarter scoring, Garrett Reynolds got the midfielders on the board nearly five minutes into the second with an outside rip off a Jake Rotman feed, for his 20th goal of the season.
Following Reynold's goal, James Burton finished one with a circus shot over his shoulder while being closely covered on the crease to make it 8-1 going into halftime as the defense was able to lock down in the quarter.
In the third quarter, Salisbury outscored the Spartans 3-1 as
Nathan Blondino put two in, and
Thomas Cirillo scored one for the Gulls. Blondino would finish the contest with five points off two goals and three assists.
Already with two assists, Rotman opened up the fourth-quarter scoring less than a minute in, and Kalama put one in less than 30 seconds later on the crease for the second of nine goals the quarter would see.
The rest of the quarter, Salisbury put up four more goals, with Kalama,
Nick Garbarino (two goals), and
Kevin McDermott all scoring. The Spartans added three tallies in the final quarter, all coming with less than 10 minutes left in the game.
The Spartans had trouble cracking the Salisbury defense all game as several defenders had standout performances. Ternahan, at the long-stick midfield position, had two assists to go along with seven groundballs and three caused turnovers, while the starting close defense combined for 10 groundballs and seven caused turnovers.
Colin Reymann was the story however, stopping 15 of the 20 shots fired his way for a .750 save percentage. This marks the second-straight game Reymann has set both a career high in saves and set the Gulls' season high for saves.
The offense also had an efficient game as it shot 52% on York's keeper, Caleb Abney, who came into the contest ranked in the top 15 in the nation in save percentage.
The win for Salisbury clinched home field advantage for the entirety of the upcoming CAC playoffs.
Salisbury returns to action on Saturday, April 16 for the team's regular-season finale, hosting Cabrini College at 1 p.m.
