SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 1 Salisbury University men's lacrosse team went into Saturday's Capital Athletic Conference semifinal contest as the top-seeded team in the tournament and took down fourth-seeded Frostburg State University, 14-6, at Sea Gull Stadium.

With the victory, Salisbury (18-0) will now advance to the CAC championship game against second-seeded York College of Pennsylvania (15-3).

Frostburg came out in a stingy zone defense that gave Salisbury troubles early as the Bobcats held a 4-2 lead at the end of the first quarter.

After Adam Gross notched the first of the game four and a half minutes in, Salisbury won the ensuing faceoff as Andrew Ternahan scooped it up. Pushing the pace, Ternahan took it into the offense zone, faked a pass to the point attackman and called his own number, ripping a deep shot to the top-right corner to tie it up just seven seconds after the initial goal.

Ternahan was also the Gulls' top performer on the defensive end, scooping up five groundballs and causing five turnovers.

Nathan Blondino got the other Salisbury goal in the first quarter for his lone marker of the game, as he also added four assists for five points in the game.

Salisbury showed signs of its ability to crack the zone throughout a slow-paced second quarter. Thomas Cirillo put one in at 12:21 but neither team would score until the Bobcats' Tate Rolland responded at 2:02 to retain the two-goal lead.

Salisbury once again scored just seven seconds after a Duncan Campbell faceoff victory. This time Campbell won it forward and got the groundball, moved it to Blondino, who one touched it to Carson Kalama on the crease. Kalama finished with a quick release for the score, one of his five goals in the game.

As it looked like Salisbury was going to be down at halftime, Cirillo had the ball near goal-line extended as the final five seconds of the half were ticking down. Cirillo ripped a hard pass to the crease that Kalama was able to finish with two seconds left on the clock.

With the score tied up at five at halftime, Salisbury only had two turnovers and went a perfect 9-for-9 on clears.

The Gulls controlled the play for the remainder of the game, outscoring Frostburg 3-1 in the third quarter, and 6-0 in the fourth.

Kalama put home another Blondino feed before Brady Dashiell bounced one past Frostburg's keeper on the man up to go up by two.

The Bobcats got their final goal of the contest with 7:19 left in the third as Nick Stailey put in an unassisted marker.

Kalama ended the third-quarter scoring with two and a half minutes remaining as James Burton had a wide open look from 12 yards out, but the CAC's leading assist man opted to dish it to the sure-handed Kalama who gave a fake and found the back of the net.

Burton had three assists on the day, brining his season total to 42. This is the first time Salisbury has had a 40-assist player since its 2012 national championship team, when Matt Cannone had 67.

In the six-goal fourth quarter, Cirillo scored twice while Kalama, Christian Ottenritter, Garrett Reynolds, and Dashiell all added goals for Salisbury to close out the semifinal.

Having another great defensive day, Salisbury got outputs of at least three groundballs and two caused turnovers from Preston Dabbs, Will Nowesnick, Kyle Tucker, and Ternahan.

Colin Reymann, after only getting two saves in the first half, had eight saves in the second half for his third-straight double-digit save showing. The last time Salisbury had three-straight double-digit save games from one keeper was also during the 2012 championship season, with Alex Taylor doing so.

The CAC championship game against York will take place on Saturday, April 30 at Sea Gull Stadium. Game time is to be determined.
