No. 6 Sea Gulls notch third shutout of 2016 with 6-0 win against Cabrini

Box Score

SALISBURY, Md. – The sixth-ranked Salisbury University field hockey team registered its third shutout of the year with a resounding 6-0 victory against Cabrini University on Saturday evening.

Despite a hefty lead, Salisbury (5-1) continued to play at a high level through the entire 70 minutes. The Gulls dominated in every statistical category, outshooting Cabrini (2-5) by a margin of 29-0 and earning 17 penalty corners to the Cavaliers' four.

A tremendous defensive effort complemented Salisbury's efficient offense; junior goalkeeper Tressie Windsor did not face a single shot all evening. The maroon and gold netted four goals in the first half and did not allow Cabrini to earn a penalty corner until the 46th minute of play.

Freshman back Arielle Johnston led the Sea Gulls with five shots on goal; two of those shots found the back of the cage, including the first goal of the game just six minutes in. Junior forward Natalie Wilkinson scored one goal and dished out two assists – one to Johnston, and one to help senior back Annah Brittingham score in the 49th minute – and senior midfielder Abbey Shobe also hit paydirt with an unassisted goal in the 14th minute.

The final score of the game was beautifully orchestrated by three underclassmen. Freshman midfielder Paige Twilley-Webster brought down a ball in mid-air and executed a brilliant downfield pass to freshman forward Rachel Domanico. Domanico then quickly dished it to sophomore forward Kristen Yingling, who crossed over and beat Cabrini's keeper and put the exclamation point on the win.

With the victory, Salisbury has now outscored its opponents 29-5 in six games.

The Sea Gulls now travel to Baltimore to square off against Johns Hopkins University on Wednesday, September 21 at 7 p.m., before returning home to face No. 8 The College of New Jersey on Saturday, September 24. That game is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
