BALTIMORE – The fifth-ranked Salisbury University field hockey team earned another shutout victory – its fourth of the season – by defeating Johns Hopkins University, 5-0, on Wednesday evening.

Salisbury (6-1) came out swinging, scoring its first goal less than nine minutes into the contest. A relentless Natalie Wilkinson made her presence known in front of the cage; the junior forward's first shot was saved by Johns Hopkins keeper Greta Helvie, but Wilkinson quickly collected the rebound and fired it into the goal.

But Wilkinson wasn't done – six minutes later, she dished an assist to sophomore forward Emily Lemanski, who made it 2-0 for the Gulls. Scores by senior midfielder Abbey Shobe (assisted by classmate Annah Brittingham) and sophomore forward Catherine Sweeney (assisted by freshman forward Rachel Domanico) made it 4-0 at the half.

The Sea Gulls were statistically dominant in the first 35 minutes of play, outshooting the Blue Jays 22-0.

Johns Hopkins (4-2) buckled down its defense in the second half; despite a flurry of shots and opportunities, the Sea Gulls were unable to add a tally to the board for 33 minutes. With less than two minutes remaining, Sweeney ended the scoring drought by netting her second goal of the evening and making the final decision 5-0.

Overall, Salisbury held a 38-0 advantage in shots and a 13-1 edge in penalty corners.

The Sea Gulls have now outscored their opponents an impressive 34-5 in seven games.

Salisbury next directs its attention to No. 9 ranked The College of New Jersey, which it will host at Sea Gull Stadium on Saturday, September 24. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
