CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The top-ranked Salisbury University men's lacrosse team traveled up the Eastern Shore of Maryland for the annual Charles B. Clark Cup game against Washington (Md.) College and took down the Shoremen 14-1 in the 51st meeting of the two sides.

The game marked just the third time the two teams have met with both being undefeated and Salisbury (6-0) now holds a 31-20 edge in the historic matchup. The lowest goal total for either side in the 50 previous matchups was two, which happened last season when Salisbury won 14-2.

The Shoremen (5-1) started the game getting the majority of the possession but Salisbury displayed a suffocating defense that had the home side get three shot-clock warnings before they even attempted their first shot at the 7:55 mark in the first quarter.

The Gulls struck first after Kevin McDermott drew a double team and pushed it behind to Nathan Blondino. Blondino swung the ball to the opposite side and found Nick Garbarino who got it out quick and found the top-left corner with 3:33 left in the quarter. That goal stood as the only strike for either side in the first.

Salisbury broke the doors open on the game in the second quarter, outscoring the home side 7-0. Salisbury outshot Washington College 15-1 in the period to get ahead 8-0 at half.

The second Salisbury goal came on the man up when Adam Huber had the ball centered to the cage and ripped a pass to Brendan Bromwell who was on the low left wing. Bromwell dipped his stick to get keeper Ben Flood to go low, but Bromwell elevated and found the top shelf from his severe angle to go up 2-0 at the 11:46 mark. The Salisbury lead got stretched to 3-0 less than a minute later when Josh Melton dodged from X and found the top self while fading away and taking a body check.

Salisbury then got two similar goals off dump downs to the crease that Kalama and Bromwell buried to bring the score to 5-0. Bromwell then completed the hat trick for the game's sixth goal at 5:02 with an identical low-to-high goal like his first of the game from the low-left wing that this time came off a pass from Corey Gwin.

The halftime score of 8-0 came with Gwin and Gabrarino scoring late goals for Salisbury in the second quarter. At the break, Salisbury held a 24-7 edge in groundballs and an 8-for-10 lead at the faceoff X. Duncan Campbell ended the game going 12-for-14 from the dot.

Will Nowesnick was the standout defender for Salisbury in the first half, getting three groundballs and three caused turnovers, while Colin Reymann only had to make two saves. Reymann ended his day unblemished in just over 52 minutes with two saves.

After three assists in the first half, Blondino got in the scoring column with the first two goals of the third quarter to bring the score to 10-0 with 4:04 left in the third quarter. Garbarino then completed his hat trick with 2:46 in the quarter to cap the quarter's scoring with Salisbury up 11-0.

Blondino ended the day with eight points via three goals and five assists.

McDermott made it a dozen in the fourth before Kalama got his second of the day at 9:01 to bring the score to 13-0. The goal was a historic one as it put Kalama into the record books, tied for 10th most goals all time in program history. Blondino got the 14th for Salisbury and the game but the Shoremen put one home with 2:04 left in the game to take away the shutout.

The starting defense of Nowesnick, Kyle Tucker, and Aaron Leeds locked down the Shoremen all day. The home side only put three shots on net all game. Tucker had a stellar game with seven groundballs and four caused turnovers while Cory Berry had two groundballs and four caused turnovers from the long-stick midfield position. Jeremiah LaClair had a breakout game from the defensive midfield,notching five groundballs and playing solid defense throughout.

Salisbury returns to action with another rivalry matchup as No. 7 Stevenson University comes to Sea Gulls Stadium on Tuesday, March 14. That game is set to start a 7 p.m.
