Sea Gulls notch fourth shutout in 3-0 win at Cabrini

Box Score

RADNOR, Pa. – The No. 3 Salisbury University Field Hockey team hit the road on Saturday, collecting a 3-0 win – and the team's fourth shutout of the year – at Cabrini University.

It was the Cavaliers (1-5) that had the first scoring chances, getting a penalty corner opportunity just five minutes into the game and Jackie Neary got two shots off, but both were blocked. The two tries accounted for nearly all of Cabrini's shots in the half, with Salisbury holding an 8-3 edge in the category at the break.

The Sea Gulls (4-1) were able to find the back of the net twice in the opening half, getting the first off the stick of Emily Lemanski in the 21st minute from Natalie Wilkinson on one of the team's six penalty corners in the opening half.

Sophomore Arielle Johnston doubled the lead, scoring with just over two minutes left in the first half, again off a penalty corner, with senior Nicole Lindner getting the assist on this goal allowing Salisbury to hold a 2-0 lead at the break.

The second half saw the Sea Gulls' better chances on offense continue, with a 12-4 advantage shots, despite the Cavaliers getting eight penalty corners to Salisbury's four tries in the second half.

But it was Salisbury that would find the only goal of the second half, when Wilkinson scored her third goal of the year with sophomore Tara Daddio getting the assist. Daddio carried the ball along the endline and sent a pass to Wilkinson at the far post for the finish and the 3-0 lead seven minutes into the second half.

Neither team would score the rest of the way, with Salisbury holding a 20-7 edge in shots in the game, though the Cavaliers were unable to test Sea Gull goalkeeper Tressie Windsor with a shot on goal, as the senior recorded her third solo shutout of the season.

The Sea Gulls return home for their next game on Wednesday, September 20 at Sea Gull Stadium, when they host Johns Hopkins University for a 6 p.m., contest.
