Chamberlin earns 500th career victory; Sea Gulls defeat Eagles, 3-0

Box Score

SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 7 Salisbury University field hockey team punched its ticket to the Capital Athletic Conference championship game with a dominant 3-0 victory against the University of Mary Washington on Wednesday evening.

The Sea Gulls (15-2, 6-0 CAC) wasted no time getting on the board, as junior Jillian Hughes collected a rebound in front of the cage and fired a shot past Eagle goalkeeper Jessica Cavolt just over a minute into the contest for a 1-0 edge. That single goal would be the only one of the first half, despite the Sea Gulls getting 14 shots off.

Salisbury came out swinging in the second half, and its defense continued to clamp down on the Eagles (11-6, 3-4 CAC). In the 49th minute, junior Lexi Butler made it a 2-0 contest; it was her first goal of the season. The third and final score of the game came off the stick of sophomore Jenna Partilla, who took a pass from Butler in front of the goal and ripped it into the back of the cage.

The victory, Salisbury's ninth shutout of the season, marked a career milestone for Head Coach Dawn Chamberlin, who notched her 500th win. Chamberlin, a Class of 2008 National Field Hockey Coaches Association Hall of Fame inductee, has been at the helm of the Sea Gulls for 32 years.

Salisbury now turns its attention to 16th-ranked Christopher Newport University in the Capital Athletic Conference championship game on Saturday, November 3 at 6 p.m. at Sea Gull Stadium.
