St. Mary's downs Salisbury in CAC semifinals

Box Score

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The third-seeded Salisbury University men's soccer team saw its run in the Capital Athletic Conference tournament come to an end with a 1-0 loss to second-seeded St. Mary's College of Maryland in the semifinal round on Wednesday afternoon.

Neither team was able to get on the scoreboard in the first half, with the teams combining for just three shots on goal. Salisbury (11-4-3), which accounted for two of them, totaled four shots to St. Mary's (12-3-4) seven. The Seahawks were responsible for all three corner kicks.

Khalid Balogun, the CAC's leading scorer, had the first real chance of the game in the 54th minute, but his header from the six went just wide right.

The Seahawks struck 10 minutes later though as Andrew Kalinoski snuck a header inside the right post directly off a throw-in from Pascal Iraola for the 1-0 lead.

The one goal would be all St. Mary's needed as Patrick Paolini collected his eighth shutout of the season, stopping all five Sea Gull shots that came his way. Cullen Myers and Ryan Spadin each recorded one shot on goal and combined for half of Salisbury's 10 total shots.

Despite registering 17 total shots, the Seahawks managed to get just four on goal. St. Mary's also held a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks for the game.
