Flavin fires off four goals, leads No. 8 Sea Gulls past Frostburg

FROSTBURG, Md. – The No. 8 Salisbury University field hockey team dominated its opening Capital Athletic Conference match on Saturday morning, defeating Frostburg State University, 6-0.

Freshman midfielder Tara Flavin had a career day, netting four of Salisbury's (9-2, 1-0 CAC) six goals, including the first score of the game in the 5th minute and three-straight goals to seal the victory for the Sea Gulls. Junior forward Tara Daddio netted Salisbury's other two goals, less than a minute apart.

Salisbury's defense held Frostburg (1-10, 0-1 CAC) to just one shot and one penalty corner the game. In contrast, the Gulls fired off 41 shots and earned 18 penalty corners.

The victory marks Salisbury's sixth shutout of the season. The maroon and gold have now outscored their opponents 39-8. 

The Sea Gulls return home for the next two contests, beginning with a clash against Wesley College on Wednesday, October 10. It will also be Salisbury's annual Corners for Cancer game. Fans have the opportunity to pledge an amount per penalty corner earned by Salisbury during the game or can choose to donate a set amount; all funds raised will benefit the American Cancer Society. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
