SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 19 Salisbury University baseball team defeated Capital Athletic Conference opponent Marymount (Va.) University on Wednesday afternoon at Sea Gull Baseball Stadium, 6-1.

The Sea Gulls (24-7, 12-2 CAC) jumped on the Saints (12-18, 4-10 CAC) early, scoring five of their six runs in the opening frame. Leadoff hitter Justin Meekins drew a walk to start the inning, then stole second during Brad Keith's at-bat before a wild pitch helped him reach third base. Keith then also drew a walk to put runners on the corners.

A successful stolen base attempt by Keith managed to draw a throw from the Saint's catcher, allowing Meekins to steal home for the first run of the game. After advancing to third base on a wild pitch, Keith was then driven home by a Jack Barry single through the right side of the infield.

Barry then used the same blueprint as his teammates by stealing second during Jack Decker's at-bat, then advancing to third base on a passed ball. Decker finished his turn at the plate by drawing the third walk of the inning.

The Saints were forced to make a pitching change before recording an out after Decker successfully stole second base during Scott Ardoin's at-bat. Ardoin then drew the walk to load the bases.

A Jay Perry sacrifice fly pushed the score to 3-0 before a fielding error tacked on one more run. A sacrifice fly by Colby Dean drove in Ardoin for the final run of the inning.

Marymount would manage to get a run back in the top of the fifth inning, but the Sea Gulls quickly answered back in the bottom of the frame on an Ardoin infield single that brought Barry home from third base.

The 6-1 score would hold for the final four innings of the game, delivering the Sea Gulls their 14th straight victory.

Starting Pitcher Connor Reeves (9-2) provided another masterful performance on the mound, tossing a complete game while striking out 11 batters and allowing only one earned run. With the win, Reeves maintains at least a share of lead for most wins in division III baseball, having entered the day in a 7-way tie.

The team will travel to York College (Pa.) on Saturday, April 21 for a conference doubleheader. Game one is set to begin at 12 p.m.
