DALLAS, Pa. – The No. 5 Salisbury University field hockey team opened the 2018 season with a 1-0 win against Dickinson College on Friday afternoon at the Misericordia Invitational.

It was an Emily Lemanski goal that proved to be the only marker of the game, coming less than eight minutes into the contest, off an assist from Jenna Partilla. The goal allowed Lemanski to pick up where she left off last season as the team's leading scorer, putting home 10 goals in 2017.

Lemanski's tally came on fourth shot of the game as the Sea Gulls (1-0) peppered Dickinson goalkeeper Heather Meeder in the early moments. Meeder turned away a shot by Rachel Domanico just before Lemanski put in the game winner.

Salisbury outshot the Red Devils 21-2 in the contest, putting 12 of the tries on target with Meeder making 11 saves. The Sea Gulls also earned 12 penalty corners in the game against seven for Dickinson (0-1).

The Sea Gull defense limited the Red Devils to just two shots in the game, the first of which did not come until less than five minutes remained in the contest. Only one of the shots was on goal, but was turned away from junior goalkeeper Caitlin Harris, who picked up the win, working all 70 minutes in net.

The Sea Gulls are back in action on Saturday, September 1, taking on the host Misericordia at 2 p.m. The Cougars fell to Gwynedd-Mercy University on Friday, 2-1.
