ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's soccer team earned its third straight victory, defeating Bridgewater (Va.) College, 1-0, to open the Seahawk Classic on Saturday.

The Sea Gulls (3-1) started quick, taking two corner kicks and firing off four shots in the opening 16 minutes. The Bridgewater (3-1) defense settled in, however, allowing just two shots the rest of the half.

The Eagles, who got off just one shot in those opening 16 minutes, went on to take six more in the first half, but to no avail. The two teams entered halftime locked at 0-0.

After a flurry of fouls on Bridgewater to open the second half, Salisbury drew a penalty in the box in the 57th minute. Ryan Spadin's penalty kick was saved by Bridgewater goalkeeper Quentin Boric, but Spadin capitalized on the rebound, putting it in the back of the net to break the 0-0 tie.

Spadin's goal is all the Sea Gulls would need, as the backline of Kyle Munson, Alex Eiben, Cameron Wilson, and Trent Hofmeister helped post the team's third straight blank sheet.

Salisbury allowed just two shots in the second half, both of which Trevor Brookhart saved. Brookhart ended the game with four saves as Salisbury outshot the Eagles 14-9 in the game.

Salisbury wraps up the Seahawk Classic tomorrow against Virginia Wesleyan University. The Sea Gulls and Marlins are scheduled to begin play at 2 p.m.
