ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's soccer team finished the Seahawk Classic 2-0 after defeating Virginia Wesleyan University 3-1 on Sunday afternoon.

The Marlins (0-5) wasted little time getting on the board, scoring just 2:25 into the match on a header off a free kick from 25 yards out.

Salisbury (4-1) responded less than six minutes later as Ryan Spadin sent a cross into the box to Cameron Ament, who tied the match at 1-1.

The Sea Gulls took the lead in the 31st minute on Josh Woozley's first goal of the season. Peter Gutoskey sent a free kick from the left corner to the far post, where Woozley headed in the service.

The maroon and gold took the 2-1 lead into halftime despite getting outshot 6-4 in the first half.

Stephen White added an insurance goal midway through the second half, making it 3-1. White's goal came on an assist from Woozley following another free kick off the foot of Gutoskey.

Both teams ended the match with 12 shots, while Salisbury attempted five corner kicks to Virginia Wesleyan's one.

Trevor Brookhart made six saves to help the Sea Gulls extend their winning streak to four games.

Salisbury returns home to face Washington (Md.) College on Wednesday, September 12. The Sea Gulls and Shoremen are scheduled to begin play at 4 p.m.
