Men's Soccer finishes in scoreless draw with Messiah

GRANTHAM, Pa. - The Salisbury University men's soccer team battled the Messiah Falcons in a back-and-forth, action-packed game to end in a scoreless draw Saturday night.  

THE RUNDOWN 

  • Final Score: Salisbury 0, Messiah 0 

  • Records: Salisbury (5-1-1) | Messiah (4-2-2) 

  • Location: Shoemaker Field- Grantham, Pa. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Salisbury's first shot would come from Dylan Parks in the 41st minute, his shot would be blocked by the Falcon defense. 

  • The start of the second half, Beau Johnson would find his first opportunity in the 56th minute, his low shot attempt would be saved.  

  • The first overtime period was very defensive for the Sea Gulls, the lone shot came from Ryan Spadin, but his shot missed left. 

  • A penalty kick was called with three minutes left in the first overtime when Josh Woozley was fouled in the box. 

  • Dolph Hegewisch's penalty shot was denied by the Messiah goalie. 

  • Not even a minute later, another penalty kick was called, this time for the Falcons. A huge save was made on Luke Groothoff's attempt by Ryan Miller. 

  • Salisbury's defense held tight in the overtime to keep the game scoreless. 

GAME NOTES 

  • Messiah held the 29-9 shot advantage over Salisbury. 

  • Ryan Miller made 10 saves in goal for Salisbury. 

  • Ryan Spadin tallied four shots, two of which were on goal. 

  • Beau Johnson and Dylan Parks each notched a shot on target. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE 

  • Miller's 10 saves in goal set a new career-high. 

  • It is Salisbury's second draw all-time in their series with Messiah. 

UP NEXT 

  • The Sea Gulls will return to Sea Gull Soccer Stadium on Wed. Sept. 25 when they host the Catholic Cardinals for a weekday matchup.
