Women's Soccer ends in a draw against Stevenson

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Salisbury University women's soccer team tied with Stevenson University, 0-0, despite a dominant performance by the Sea Gulls on Saturday afternoon at Mustang Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Stevenson got things started early after Kennedy Cash ripped a cross that nearly went in, just missing the far post.
  • The Salisbury offense came close with just under two minutes left in the first half when Tierney Crehan fielded a pass and came inches away from knocking the ball into the net, but a tremendous play by the keeper Keegan Caffrey kept the game knotted at zero.
  • The Sea Gulls dominated possession throughout the second half, outshooting the Mustangs 12-3 in the half.
  • With five minutes left to go in the second overtime, Kasey Lamb drew a hard foul on a breakaway attempt. The referee gave the defender Samantha Eckert a red card, giving the Sea Gulls a man-up advantage.
  • Salisbury used the advantage and held possession for the last five minutes, getting a clean look by Autumn Dougherty in the 107th minute, but Caffrey saved it for the Mustangs.

SALISBURY GAME NOTES

  • Salisbury outshot Stevenson 23-6.
  • Goalkeeper Emma Hill recorded three saves in goal, moving her to seventh all-time in program history with 119 career saves.
  • Autumn Dougherty and Kyla Holt each had two shots on target.

STEVENSON GAME NOTES

  • Goalkeeper Keegan Caffrey recorded five saves in goal for the Mustangs.
  • Samantha Wilson led the offense with two shots.
  • Samantha Eckert earned a red card in the second overtime.

  • Salisbury will host the Captains of Christopher Newport for their first Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) matchup of the season on Wednesday, Oct. 6.
