Rendina nets a tally against No. 4 CNU

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. ­– The Salisbury University women's soccer team dropped a 7-1 decision to the fourth-ranked Christopher Newport Captains in a road Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • In just the fifth minute of the game, Riley Cook won a fifty-fifty ball and beat her defender to get a shot off past the fingertips of Emma Hill to give CNU the early 1-0 lead.
  • Salisbury looked to respond early, Autumn Dougherty had an opportunity in the eighth minute when she ripped a shot from just outside the box but it was scooped up by the goalkeeper Haley Eiser.
  • The Captains added to their lead in the 27th minute when Emily Talotta and Nyah Savage connected on a one-two pass to Molly Beegle inside the box who knocked it in to make it 2-0.
  • The Sea Gull defense was able to hold off the Captains the rest of the first half despite facing 14 shots, only two more were on target.
  • The CNU offense rolled in the second half before the Sea Gulls got on the board in the 84th minute after Samantha Spears drew a hard foul in the box on a corner kick. Tayah Rendina took the penalty kick and beat Eiser to put Salisbury on the board. The Captains responded with a goal four minutes later.

  • Riley Cook scored twice for the Captains.

  • Salisbury will host the Messiah Falcons on Thursday, Oct. 28.
  • The Contest is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. at the SU Soccer Complex.
