Box Score 2 VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Salisbury University volleyball team traveled to Virginia Beach, Va. on Saturday and swept the Bridgewater Eagles, 3-0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-21) but fell to the Virginia Wesleyan Marlins, 3-1 (25-22, 15-25, 23-25, 18-25) in a tri-match.

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. BRIDGEWATER
- With the first set knotted at 3-3, the marlins gained a slight edge after back-to-back kills by Ann-Marie Johnson and Ashley Casey making it 5-3.
- The Sea Gulls gained some momentum after Amanda Chew scored her first service ace of the match. Salisbury went on a six-point swing to make it 10-7 in favor of the Sea Gulls.
- Salisbury had the lead at 15-11 before they went on another scoring run thanks in part to two service aces by Brooke Young that gave the Sea Gulls a convincing 20-11 lead.
- The Marlins tried to mount a comeback but it was shut down after Young set up Jackie Mitchell for the set-winning kill to make it 25-18
- The second was dominated by Salisbury with the smallest lead for the Sea Gulls coming in the beginning of the match at 3-1. The set was put away by the Sea Gulls following a kill by Angelina Casserly and an attack error by the Marlins on the following point to give the set to Salisbury, 25-13.
- The third set saw the Sea Gulls fall behind early 16-9 thanks to a five-point swing by the Marlins that included a pair of service aces by Grace Williams.
- Salisbury mounted the comeback thanks to two kills by Chew and big blocks from Casserly and Jenna Feinauer to cut the Virginia Wesleyan lead back to 16-15.
- The set became was at 21-21 thanks to a kill by Hannah Sullivan. That was all the momentum that Salisbury needed as they scored the next four points to give the Sea Gulls the match victory and sweep.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
- Amanda Chew led the team with 12 kills and 10 digs to record her second double-double of the season.
- Darian DiMatteo dug out 12 Eagle attacks.
- Brooke Young dished out 26 assists and added seven digs with a pair of kills.
- Young also led the team with three services aces in the match.
BRIDGEWATER GAME NOTES
- Ann-Marie Johnson and Lisa O'Grady led the team with six kills each.
- Grace Hayes set up 21 assists to go with five digs.
- Madeline Walker tallied 20 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED vs. VIRGINIA WESLEYAN
- The first set started in favor of the Sea Gulls, who went up early 9-3 after multiple kills from both Amanda Chew and Jenna Feinauer.
- Salisbury maintained its lead until late in the set when the Marlins started to come back, scoring three points when facing set point to make it 24-22. After a timeout by the Sea Gulls, Jenna Waters served the ball into the net to give Salisbury the first-set win, 25-22.
- The second set got started with a massive block from Hannah Sullivan and Angelina Casserly to make it 1-0. However, this would be the only lead the Sea Gulls held in the second set, dropping the set 25-15.
- The third set saw a lot of back-and-forth action with ties at 1-1, 2-2, 3-3, and 10-10. Trailing 21-17, Natalie Uibel stepped up and drilled her sixth kill of the match to start a short rally for the Sea Gulls.
- Salisbury dropped the third set 25-23 after a service error to give the Virginia Wesleyan the 2-1 advantage in the match.
- The fourth saw more back-and-forth action with four different lead changes.
- Knotted at 16-16, Abigail Mahoney drilled back-to-back service aces to give the advantage to the Marlins, who didn't look back winning the final set 25-18.

- Emma Claytor led the Marlins with 14 kills.
- Haley Sutton had 24 assists.
- Isabelle Gaudet recorded 26 digs.

- The Sea Gulls continue their streak of road matches with a tri-match in Newport News, Va. on Friday, Oct. 29.
- SU will open the tri-match with Marymount at 5 p.m. before wrapping up the tri-match with CNU at 7:30 p.m.
