Men's Soccer completes second-half comeback at St. Mary's, 3-2

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The Salisbury University men's soccer team rallied back from a two-goal deficit to defeat the St. Mary's Seahawks, 3-2, on Wednesday.

 HOW IT HAPPENED

  • In the 12th minute, the St. Mary's offense went on the attack. Roshawn Panton sent a pass into the box. Isaac Ekobo handled the pass and drove a strike over a Salisbury defender's head into the top left corner to give the Seahawks the lead.  
  • The Seahawks in the 22nd minute got their offense on the move again. After a failed clear, Panton sent another shot into the top left corner to give the Seahawks a two-goal lead.
  • In the 42nd minute, the Sea Gulls looked to try and lessen the deficit before the half. After a Seahawks foul, Brady Young sent a free-kick into the box. The ball deflected off a Seahawk defender and went into the back of the net for the first goal of the game for the Sea Gulls.  
  • In the 63rd minute, Kiran Chikmath sent a shot that was deflected by the Seahawk goalkeeper. After a few bounces, Sean Barwick cleaned up the mess and tapped in a shot to tie the game at two.  
  • The Sea Gull offense kept the momentum in their favor. After a failed clear attempt in the box by a Seahawk defender, Carter Chesney, made a sliding play to push the ball past the Seahawk goaltender. The Chesney goal gave Salisbury its first lead of the game in the 73rd minute.

 SALISBURY GAME NOTES

  • The Sea Gulls tallied 18 shots with eight on goal.
  • Sean Barwick and Carter Chesney scored the goals for the Sea Gulls.
  • George Fotiou led the way with five shots.
  • Gabe Dunn earned the start and collected two saves.
  • The Sea Gulls had seven corner kicks compared to the three from St. Mary's.

 ST. MARY'S GAME NOTES

  • The Seahawks notched eight shots with four being on net.
  • Liam Delone-Bellsey had six saves in net for the Seahawks.
  • Roshawn Panton and Isaac Ekobo scored the goals for the Seahawks.

 UP NEXT

  • Salisbury travels to rival Mary Washington on Saturday, Oct. 9 to open Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference play.
  • Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. in Fredericksburg, Va.
