SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Salisbury University volleyball team got its groove back and opened the Battle of the SUs by thumping the Stockton Ospreys, 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-15), on Friday night at Orlando W. Houts Gym on the campus of Susquehanna University.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• After spotting the Ospreys the first two points of the match, the Sea Gulls ignited a 7-0 run to seize control of the first set and never looked back. Stockton committed a pair of errors to tie it at 2-2, then Caitlyn Edman, Jackie Mitchell and Jenna Feinauer rattled off three kills in a row to make it 5-2. Feinauer elevated for a solo block of a Jaylah Rolle attack and added another kill to make it 7-2 Salisbury and force an Osprey timeout.
• Stockton kept pace through the middle part of the set, narrowing the gap to 17-16 on a Teleyah Witherspoon kill, but Angelina Casserly and Hannah Sullivan took over to put the opening set out of reach. Casserly's kill got Salisbury the serve back at 18-16, then Casserly and Sullivan teamed up for a block and Sullivan launched a kill to make it 20-16 and force another timeout.
• Casserly came back from the break with two straight kills, and eventually the Sea Gulls closed the set out at 25-18 on an Edman kill, Brooke Young ace and Stockton service error.
• Salisbury got off to another fast start in the second set. Grace Rail dealt an ace to put the Sea Gulls up 3-0, then eventually Ella Franks drew another ace to make it 8-2.
• The Ospreys narrowed the gap to 14-10 on back-to-back Charlotte Leon kills, but Salisbury regrouped after a timeout and got the next two points on kills by Edman and Mitchell to make it 16-10.
• Those back-to-back kills jumpstarted an 11-4 set-closing run for the Sea Gulls, with Stockton spotting Salisbury the final four points of the set on errors to push it to 25-14.
• Stockton managed the first point of the third set on a kill from Emma Capriglione, but the Sea Gulls answered with eight straight points to take another big lead. Feinauer and Mitchell were the star attractions of the rally, teaming up for a pair of blocks; Feinauer also recorded a solo stuff and Mitchell fired off two kills.
• Salisbury let the Ospreys hang around but never saw their lead shrink under four points for the rest of the set. Up 13-9, Edman's kill opened a four-point run to get it to 17-9. Stockton responded with three in a row of their own but the Sea Gulls earned three of the next four points, pushing the lead to 20-13 on a Feinauer kill.
• Edman sealed the deal on the set and the match, launching a kill to get it to match point and rising up for a solo block to finish it off at 25-15.

SALISBURY GAME NOTES

• Jenna Feinauer turned in a monster performance at the net for the Sea Gulls, pounding a team-high 11 kills without an error and swinging at a stratospheric .688 attack percentage. The reigning Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) Defensive Player of the Week also accounted for eight blocks, including two solo stoppers.
• Jackie Mitchell came close to her first career double-double, notching nine kills with eight digs, plus four block assists.
• Angelina Casserly and Caitlyn Edman contributed seven kills and a solo block each.
• Brooke Young quarterbacked 16 assists and dug out seven opposing attacks, while Ella Franks notched 13 assists with six digs.
• Darian DiMatteo tallied a game-high 19 digs, more than double the next-highest Salisbury total.
• The Sea Gulls teamed up for 13 total blocks and held the Ospreys to a paltry .017 hitting percentage (27 kills, 25 errors).
• All four of Salisbury's wins this season have come via three-set sweeps.

STOCKTON GAME NOTES

• Charlotte Leon led the Ospreys with 10 kills, while Emma Capriglione added nine of her own.
• Aubrey Rentzel registered a double-double with 22 assists and 12 digs.
• Alice Brandt and Sophia Marziello contributed 11 digs apiece.
