No. 9 Field Hockey shuts out McDaniel, 3-0

WESTMINSTER, Md. – The ninth-ranked Salisbury University field hockey rebounded in a big way with a 3-0 road shutout over the McDaniel Green Terror on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Salisbury had a good scoring chance in the 12th minute on a counterattack after a McDaniel penalty corner. McKenzie Mitchell's shot on the breakaway got past the McDaniel keeper but Morgan Collins made a defensive save to keep the game scoreless.
  • The Sea Gulls finally got on the board in the 21st minute of the game. Rebecca Lloyd blasted the ball towards the net from outside the arc. Jordan Brooks corralled the ball in front of the cage and sent the ball past the keeper for the opening goal of the contest.
  • Lloyd was involved in the second Salisbury goal seven minutes later. Lloyd sent a penalty corner to Mitchell at the top of the arc. Mitchell passed the ball to Elle Wood near the middle of the scoring area, who sent it back over to Lloyd near side to double SU's advantage before the halftime break.
  • Salisbury kept the throttle down in the second half. In the 38th minute, Molly Reardon put a shot on goal which was saved by the McDaniel goalie. McKenzie Jamison received the rebound and put it in the open net to provide the final scoring margin.

SALISBURY GAME NOTES

  • Salisbury dominated the shot category over McDaniel. The Sea Gulls shot the ball 20 times with 11 shots on target.
  • McKenzie Jamison scored her third goal in four games with her tally in the third quarter.
  • Rebecca Lloyd tallied a goal and an assist in the win.
  • Jordan Brooks added a goal on six shots.
  • Elle Wood collected her first collegiate point with her assist on Lloyd's goal in the second quarter.
  • Dom Farrace didn't face a shot on goal to earn her second win of the season.

MCDANIEL GAME NOTES

  • Tenley Pelot registered the lone shot for McDaniel.
  • Morgan Collins notched a defensive save.
  • Mikayla Smith made seven saves in goal.

UP NEXT

  • Salisbury returns to Sea Gul; Stadium for the first time in the 2021 season on Wednesday, Sept. 22 against the Virginia Wesleyan Marlins.
  • The contest is set for a 6 p.m. start.
