Women's Soccer drops weekend opener to Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Salisbury University women's soccer team dropped the first game of a weekend road trip with a 2-0 defeat on Saturday to the Bridgewater Eagles. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • In just the fifth minute of the match, Bridgewater's Ashley Sabatino was able to field a pass from her teammate, Skyler Daum, and give the Eagles the 1-0 edge over the Sea Gulls. 

  • In the 80th minute, Lauren Pion was able to give Bridgewater the 2-0 advantage after some assists from both Madison Crooks and Angel Finch. 

  • The Sea Gulls threatened throughout the match, forcing Bridgewater's goalkeeper, Sydney Davis, to make 10 saves on 13 shots. Alyssa Chesney and Kara Schmidt led the Salisbury offense with two shots each. 

SALISBURY GAME NOTES 

  • Salisbury outshot Bridgewater, 13-10. 

  • 10 of the 13 shots were on target, including two by Kara Schmidt. 

  • 11 different Sea Gulls took shots in the loss. 

BRIDGEWATER GAME NOTES 

  • Sydney Davis finished with 10 saves and earned the shutout win. 

  • Two of the four shots on target resulted in a goal for the Eagles. 

  • Skyler Daum led the team with four shots. 

UP NEXT 

  • The Sea Gulls will travel to Washington D.C. to take on the Catholic Cardinals tomorrow, Sun., Sept. 19. 

  • The contest is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
