High-scoring affair with Catholic leads to 3-3 tie for Women's Soccer

Box Score

WASHINGTON D.C. – The Salisbury University women's soccer team ended its weekend slate with a 3-3 tie with the Catholic Cardinals on Sunday after an explosion of offense in the first half.

BOX SCORE

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Just three minutes into the match, a nearby factory fire created a smoke screen on the field and delayed the match until 3 p.m.
  • That fire may have sparked something both offenses as just five minutes after the restart, Catholic's, Jordan Siok found Taylor Porcello for the first goal of the match.
  • Porcello scored again five minutes later off a rebound from a save by Salisbury goalkeeper, Emma Hill.
  • The Sea Gulls responded quickly scoring twice in the 15th minute. SU's first goal of the game was scored by Ally Goetz off a penalty kick after Kasey Lamb drew the foul inside the box. Seconds after the restart, Kara Schmidt launched a pass up to Autumn Dougherty, who beat the keeper and tied the game at two.
  • In the 20th minute, Schmidt bent a corner kick just enough to hit off the far post and give Salisbury the 3-2 advantage in the first half.
  • After a corner kick, Alexa Adelmann managed to find Filomena DeGregorio who ripped the top right corner to nod the game at three in the 53rd minute.
  • The Sea Gulls had back-to-back shots by Anna Dimitriades late in the second overtime, both shots just missing the goal by inches.
  • Hill made a clutch save in a one-on-one situation with just four minutes left in the game.

SALISBURY GAME NOTES

  • Salisbury outshot Catholic, 23-12.
  • Autumn Dougherty scored her third goal in as many games with her tally in the 15th minute.

  • Emma Hill made three saved for the Sea Gulls.
