Peters, Defense power Men's Soccer past York

SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University men's soccer team defeated its old conference rival, the York Spartans, 2-0, on Wednesday.

 HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After some back-and-forth play, Salisbury got its first opportunity on a corner kick in the 21st minute. Brady Young sent the corner to the far post where Alex Floyd headed it over to Owen Peters who sent a blistering shot past the York goalkeeper to give the Sea Gulls the lead.
  • In the 29th minute, Salisbury earned another corner kick. The corner was sent again to the far post where Floyd sent a header that appeared to be caught by the York goalkeeper. But, the ball was dropped and Peters sent the ball into the back of the net to double Salisbury's lead.
  • In the 34th minute, York looked to get on the board. After a Salisbury foul, Tyler Howlett sent a free-kick towards the top left corner but Gabe Dunn made a diving save to keep the Spartans off the board.   
  • In the 51st minute, Salisbury went on the attack again. Ethan Dolezal sent a through ball into the box, where Cullen Myers sent a strike towards the goal. But, the shot was blocked by a York defender to prevent another goal.

 SALISBURY GAME NOTES

  • The Sea Gulls tallied 12 shots with six on goal.
  • Owen Peters led the Salisbury offense with a pair of goals to record his first collegiate multi-goal game.
  • Cullen Myers, Ben Pigg, and Tre Moore each tallied two shots.
  • Gabe Dunn collected two saves in goal for his second shutout of the season.
  • The Sea Gulls had four corner kicks compared to York's one.

 YORK GAME NOTES

  • The Spartans notched seven shots with two being on net.
  • Brady Bixler had four saves in net for the Spartans.

 UP NEXT

  • Salisbury hosts the Neumann Knights on Saturday, Oct. 2.
  • Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
