Volleyball brushes aside McDaniel, 3-0, in Sea Gull Classic

Box Score

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University volleyball team made quick work of their first opponent at the Sea Gull Classic, sweeping the McDaniel Green Terror, 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-14), on Friday night at the Maggs Physical Activities Center.

BOX SCORE

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Sea Gulls scored the game's first point and opened up a 5-2 lead on a service ace from Ella Franks. After giving up the next point, SU rattled off three in a row on back-to-back Jenna Feinauer kills and an Amanda Chew ace to make it 8-3.
  • The Green Terror kept pace and got back within 13-11 on a kill from Anna Jezerski, but Salisbury found another gear and went on a 6-0 run that featured a pair of Chew kills and two more Franks aces, making it 19-11.
  • From there the Sea Gulls put it in cruise control for an easy opening set victory with Hannah Sullivan laying down the clinching kill to get it to 25-15.
  • The teams matched each other punch-for-punch early on in set two, seeing nine ties and three lead changes through a kill from McDaniel's Nia Roberts that evened the score at 10-10. SU then seized control by scoring the next five in a row, capped off by yet another ace from Franks that made it 15-10.
  • Salisbury kept a four-to-seven-point cushion over McDaniel for the rest of the second set, closing the door at 25-20 when Chew found the open floor for a kill.
  • The third set belonged to the Sea Gulls from the get-go. Tied at 3-3, SU took control on an MC service error and scored six straight, including kills from Feinauer, Chew and Angelina Casserly, to go up 9-3.
  • Up 11-5 later in the set, Salisbury notched four in a row on a Jackie Mitchell kill, block by Sullivan and Caitlyn Edman, another Mitchell kill and a McDaniel ballhandling error, building the lead to double digits at 15-5.
  • SU emptied the bench and the Green Terror never got closer than seven the rest of the way. With the Sea Gulls up 23-14, Hannah Einbrod and Delaney Madsen teamed up for a stuff and Grace Rail served up the match-clinching ace, finishing off a 25-14 third and final set.
